TEC family of kinases (TEKs) represents a class of protein tyrosine kinases family that are implicated in Fc (episolon) RI-mediated cell activation (1). They are express in a wide range of cells, including hematopoietic cells including myeloid, B-, and T-cells lineages. They are one of the largest family of nonreceptor protein tyrosine kinases and consists of five members (2) : bone marrow kinase on the X chromosome (Bmx, also known as ETK) (3), Btk (4), interleukin (IL-2) inducible T-cell kinase (Itk; also known as Emt)((5), resting lymphocyte kinase Rtk, also known as Txk(6) and tyrosine kinase expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (Tec)(7). Tec kinase is involved with LTC4 generation in mast cells. LT4 is generated from arachidonic acid through 5-lipoxygenase enzyme activity . Tec also is involved with cytokine production. In the absence of Tec, TNF alpha, IL-13 and GM-CSF levels are reduced, In addition, in the absence of Tec, production of IL-4 is completely abolished.
