Product Overview
Description MEK1 (also known as MAP2K1 or mitogen activated protein kinase kinase 1) and MEK2 are dual-specificity protein kinases that control cell differentiation and growth. phospho-MEK1/2 is activated by membrane depolarization, calcium influx, and a variety of growth factors and cytokines (1-3). phospho-MEK1/2 activates p44 and p42 MAP kinase by phosphorylating both Thr and Tyr residues within the activation loop. MEK1/2 activation occurs by Ser217 and Ser221 phosphorylation in the activation loop subdomain VIII by Raf-like molecules. PAK1 phosphorylates MEK1 at Ser298, promoting MEK1 binding to Raf, and promoting further phosphorylation of MEK1 by Raf (4).
